Data gathering (alternatively known as information gathering or data collection; hereinafter, the Gathering) is a process of collecting enterprise data. The continuous Gathering is known as monitoring.

According to Organizational Behavior by Robbins and Judge (17th edition),
- Information gathering. The stage of creative behavior when possible solutions to a problem incubate in an individual's mind.
