A course is a path of something. In the United States, a course refers to an educational course that is a course of study of one subject within one academic term. This educational course serves as a quantifiable unit of instruction.
In education, generally, a course of study refers to the academic major. At learning management systems, a course refers to one standalone educational unit that requires a separate enrollment and identifies quantifiable criteria for its completion.
