Employee assistance program (also known by its acronym, EAP) is a company-sponsored program designed to assist employees in resolving personal problems, such as stress, finances, and alcoholism, that may adversely affect job performance and attendance.

According to the HRBoK Guide,

Employee assistance program. Services and counseling that employees receive to help them solve problems that could affect their work productivity. Examples include counseling for drug or alcohol problems or family issues.
