The overwhelming majority of the software solutions that CNM Cloud employs are commercial off-the-shell (COTS). Why?
In most cases, custom coding is more expensive than using pieces of software that have already been created. Custom code is also time-consuming; besides coding, custom code also requires software design, planning, testing, and bug-fixing.
Periodically, CNM Cyber Team reviews those COTS solutions that are included in CNM Cloud and researches the market. The review encounters the history of bug tickets and identified troubles. The research encounters official websites and professional sources.
If new candidates are identified, they are deployed at CNM Next Server to be tested. The CNM Technology Board decides to deploy or not to deploy them as a part of CNM apps. To make the decision, the Board takes into consideration three factors:
  1. Review and testing results;
  2. The popularity, including the number of installs and the number of contributors; and
  3. The job market demands.
If no software solution is available on the market, the Team may decide to custom code it. For instance, the software behind the user management system at WorldOpp Middleware is custom coded using PHP programming language.
Any custom-coded solution that CNM Cloud uses is being constantly updated since its development is a living project.

COTS in CNM Apps is the successor lectio.
