Transportation pipeline Kanban is used for A-type parts that are expensive and complex, with long lead-times. The method involves filling the pipeline with constantly flowing Kanbans, each with a certain number of days' demand that results in a specific number of Kanbans in the system. The Kanbans are held and released from designated points in the supply chain so as to minimize the replenishment time to the next customer.
