Data mining is the extracting of useful information about individuals, trends, and segments from the mass of data.

Data mining. The extracting of useful information about individuals, trends, and segments from the mass of data.

According to the Strategic Management by David and David (15th edition),

Data mining. Analyzing huge volumes of information in order to determine trends and garner information to make decision making more effective.
