Strengths-Weaknesses Opportunities-Threats Matrix (SWOT Matrix) is the most widely used of all strategic planning matrices; matches a firm's internal strengths/weaknesses with its external opportunities/threats to generate four types of strategies: SO (strengths-opportunities) Strategies, WO (weaknesses-opportunities) Strategies, St (strengths-threats) Strategies, and Wt (weaknesses-threats) Strategies.

According to the Strategic Management by David and David (15th edition),

Strengths-Weaknesses Opportunities-Threats Matrix (SWOT Matrix). The most widely used of all strategic planning matrices; matches a firm's internal strengths/weaknesses with its external opportunities/threats to generate four types of strategies: SO (strengths-opportunities) Strategies, WO (weaknesses-opportunities) Strategies, St (strengths-threats) Strategies, and Wt (weaknesses-threats) Strategies.
