Trademark is a word, name, symbol, or device that indicates the source of the goods and can only be used by the firm that registered that trademark.

According to Principles of Economics by Timothy Taylor (3rd edition),

Trademark. A word, name, symbol, or device that indicates the source of the goods and can only be used by the firm that registered that trademark.

According to the ASME EMBOK,

Trademark. The exclusive legal right to use and identifying mark (logo, symbol, product name) as long as it is kept in use.
