Scatter diagram is a scatter plot used to examine the relationships between variables.

According to Juran's Quality Handbook by Defeo (7th edition),

Scatter diagram. The graphical technique of plotting one continuous variable against another, to determine correlation. This is a prelude to regression analyses to determine prediction equations.

Scatter diagram. Chart that shows relationships between variables. A graph with a vertical axis and a horizontal axis with dots at each data point; also called a scatter plot or dot chart.
