Personal environment (or, simply, environment) is the surroundings and conditions in which an enterprise operates. Enterprise environment refers to the combined internal and external factors and forces, both standing alone and interacting with one another, that affect or can potentially affect the enterprise's performance.

According to Looking Out, Looking In by Adler, Proctor (15th edition),
- Environment. The field of experiences that leads a person to make sense of another's behavior. Environments consist of physical characteristics, personal experiences, relational history, and cultural background.
