Hygiene factor

Hygiene factor is a factor -- such as company policy and administration, supervision, and salary -- that, when adequate in a job, placates workers. When these factors are adequate, people will not be dissatisfied.

According to Management by Robbins and Coulter (14th edition),

Hygiene factor. A factor that eliminates job dissatisfaction, but don't motivate.
