Mediation is the introduction of a neutral third party into a grievance situation or collective bargaining impasse. Although mediators have no decision-making powers, they use their skills and work actively to achieve a settlement that is mutually agreeable to both sides.

Mediation. Adversarial process in which a third party—the mediator—helps contestants work out a settlement.

Mediation. Helping others negotiate. An attempt to help other people or groups come to an agreement.
