Mentoring is a process whereby an experienced organizational member (a mentor) provides advice and guidance to a less experiences member (a protégé).

According to Management by Robbins and Coulter (14th edition),

Mentoring. A process whereby an experienced organizational member (a mentor) provides advice and guidance to a less experiences member (a protégé).

According to the HRBoK Guide,

Mentoring. Helping a person learn. When an experienced person shares knowledge with someone who has less experience.
