Prevailing wage

Prevailing wage is the hourly wage, usual benefits and overtime, paid to the majority of workers, laborers, and mechanics within a particular area. Prevailing wages are established by the United States Department of Labor, state departments, and/or industries for each trade and occupation employed in the performance of public work.

According to Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining by Michael R. Carrell and Christina Heavrin (10th edition),

Prevailing wage. The hourly wage, usual benefits and overtime, paid to the majority of workers, laborers, and mechanics within a particular area. Prevailing wages are established, by the Department of Labor & Industries, for each trade and occupation employed in the performance of public work.

According to the HRBoK Guide,

Prevailing wage. Usual wage paid to workers in an area. The hourly wage, usual benefits, and overtime that most workers receive in a certain location.
