Statistical inference

Statistical inference is the process of estimating, through sampling and application of statistical methods, certain characteristics of a population. In the world of quality, these estimates and statistical conclusions are used to draw practical conclusions, typically giving the practitioner confidence in taking subsequent action (or inaction) to improve a process.
